University of Greifswald
University’s presentation
An International University of Past and Present
The University of Greifswald is one of the oldest universities in Germany and the Baltic Sea Region. Founded in 1456, it is also the oldest Swedish university, as the region was ruled by the Swedes after the Thirty Years War and up until 1815.
Still today, the University of Greifswald is closely tied to the universities of the Baltic Sea Region; and the Cultures of the Baltic Sea Region are among the University’s key fields of research. But now the international relationships in both research and teaching have spread to regions and countries across the globe. The University today sustains international exchange relationships to more than 200 universities. There are currently international students and scholars from more than 90 different countries.
