University’s presentation
The Salzburg University of Education Stefan Zweig (Pädagogische Hochschule Salzburg Stefan Zweig) combines professional initial, in-service and continuing education of teachers with research on relevant educational needs for the future.
The University focuses on comprehensive education, modern pedagogical impulses, regional and international networks and the art of imparting knowledge and skills.
Currently, initial studies conclude with the degree “Bachelor of Education” (training for primary, lower secondary and special needs teacher education). Personal and social qualifications are assessed to the same extent as methodology and profound knowledge. Some selected programmes conclude with the degree „Master of Education“.
The attached training schools enable students to put theoretical know-how into teaching practice. The transfer is based on the concept of self-organised learning and teaching and takes place under scientific guidance. The international class, implemented at the Praxisvolksschule, provides content-learning in English for grades 1 to 4. The Praxismittelschule has a focus on science in education for students aged 10 to 14. According to the new legislation of teacher education in Austria, curricula for BA and MA as well as for research in didactics for primary and lower secondary schools are being developed and implemented at the moment.
In-service and professional continuing training is organised for approximately 10,000 teachers of all types of schools. A wide range of courses and seminars are meeting individual teachers‘ needs for daily classroom-activities.
Quality and innovation are regularly assured through scientific analysis and research concerning pedagogical and social matters.
INTERNATIONAL
A European network of agreements with more than 70 partner institutions contributes to the attractiveness of the University of Education. Teachers and students are encouraged to take part in national and international educational projects, study visits and exchange programmes, thus acquiring educational and social expertise.
