University’s presentation

University of Cyprus aims to establish itself as a Pioneer Research Institution achieving International Scientific Recognition in European Higher Education, offering Competitive Programmes and to become a Centre of Excellence in the wider Euro – Mediterranean Region.

The main objectives of the University are twofold: the promotion of scholarship and education through teaching and research, and the enhancement of the cultural, social and economic development of Cyprus.

In this context, the University believes that education must provide more than simply accumulation of knowledge. It must also encourage students’ active participation in the process of learning and acquisition of those values necessary for responsible involvement in the community. The University sets high standards for all branches of scholarship.

Research is promoted and funded in all departments for its contribution to scholarship in general and for its local and international applications

Clarifications about the courses

The main language of teaching at the University is Greek. There are departments which offer courses in English. The Department of French and European Studies offers courses in French and German. In the departments where there are no courses in English, there are courses in Greek that Erasmus students can select and for which they are supported by English bibliography, assignments, tutorials and exams in English provided the academics agree to offer them.

Linguistic support

The courses in the Greek Language are offered by the School of Modern Greek of the University of Cyprus, free of charge for the exchange students.

There are 2 types of courses:

  • 13-week intensive courses: These courses are running twice a year throughout the semesters. There are two courses: One running from September to December and one running from January to April. These courses are offered at all levels.
  • 26 weeks of the non-intensive course: This course is running throughout the academic year.
