Medical University - Plovdiv is a state university accredited by the National Evaluation and Accreditation Agency. Founded in 1945, MU - Plovdiv has trained over 30 000 local and foreign students from 43 countries in Europe, Asia, America and Africa. Today most of the alumni are respected competent physicians and dentists or eminent healthcare professionals and scientists in their home countries. They remain connected professionally and emotionally to their colleagues and teachers. Their Alma Mater and the city of Plovdiv occupy an important place in their lives and they reveal this commitment on every occasion possible.

MU - Plovdiv is a member of the European University Association.

It has been granted the Erasmus University Charter 2021-2027 ensuring participation in International educational projects and programmes of the European Union, which guarantees quality training and student and teacher mobility for integration into European structures. MU – Plovdiv has signed more than 130 bilateral academic agreements with foreign universities. Most of the agreements are within the framework of the Erasmus+ Programme for student and staff mobilities with universities from 25 Member States of the European Union and non EU Programme Countries. MU – Plovdiv also maintains stable partnerships with universities from Partner Countries and has signed 15 inter-institutional agreements with USA, Israel, Colombia, Russia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Ukraine and Moldova. The University carries out incoming and outgoing student mobilities for studies and traineeships as well as staff mobilities for training and teaching. It has become a tradition for professors from USA, UK, France, Germany, Italy and Israel to deliver lectures at the MU- Plovdiv.

Over 6000 students in Medicine, Dental Medicine, Pharmacy and Public Health are trained at MU - PLOVDIV. It provides training of PhD students and specializing medical professionals. All programmes in MU - Plovdiv comply with all Unified State Requirements for the Acquisition of Higher Education. Harmonization of curricula and study programmes with the appropriate European universities ensures ECTS introduction, mutual recognition of study plans and increased student mobility. The new study programmes are closely related to the implementation of e-Learning and interactive methods in the training process. We have all theoretical, pre-clinical and clinical departments required by modern international standards. We pride ourselves on our modern equipment for diagnostics, treatment, research and training of medical, dental and other health professionals. Clinical training takes place at six university hospitals: Kaspela, Pulmed, Eurohospital, Selena, Plovdiv and St. George Hospital, the largest hospital in the country provided with advanced equipment and up-to-date technologies. Forms of training include lecture courses, lab classes, tutorials, clinical groups and bed-side work. Tailored study and practice are encouraged, depending on students’ interests and future professional plans. Since 2007, the diplomas issued by MU - Plovdiv are recognized by all member countries of the EU and the EEA.
