Chungnam National University
University’s presentation
Chungnam National University (CNU) is one of ten Flagship Korean National Universities, the top regional universities in South Korea.
The university was founded in 1952 as Chungnam Provincial University. Its mission is to nurture creativity, service, mind, spirit and leadership skills.
A comprehensive range of subjects is available to study through CNU’s 17 colleges and faculties. Ranging from liberal arts to military studies, most fields are covered by one faculty or another.
CNU places high value on international relations, with almost 300 sister universities. It offers a variety of international exchange programmes that may be paid fully or in part by the university. Students coming to CNU on exchange benefit from a free intensive Korean language course.
The university has a diverse range of research institutes. They include such facilities as the Research Center for Advanced Magnetic Materials, the Research Institute for Korean Politics, the Materials Chemical Laboratory and the Research Institute for Rapidly Solidified Materials.
Chungnam National is located in Daejeon, the fifth largest city in South Korea and the country’s scientific hub. A major draw is the prominence of tech and science in the area, a significant benefit for any student looking to start a career in technology or just enjoy the Science Museum. Students can also enjoy the picturesque Mount Yasan and Lake Daecheongho or take a dip in the Yuseong Hot Springs. The local speciality is Yangban Samgyetang, or ginseng chicken soup, which is reputed to have several health benefits.
